EU SPACE SUPPORT OFFICE (EUSSO)

The EU Space Support Office (EUSSO) is the successor of the former Copernicus Support Office (CSO) which was established by the European Commission in 2017.

The EUSSO started operations in September 2023 with the objective to accompany and support the enlargement of the former Copernicus Networks, now rebranded "EU Space Networks", to all the components of the EU Space Programme.

In this context, the primary purpose of the EUSSO is to animate the EU Space Networks and operate a helpdesk that provides support to potential or existing users of EU space data and services.

EUSSO's activities encompass a wide diversity of tasks, among which:

  • Organisation and animation of monthly videoconferences with network members;
  • Support to network members for their events (e.g. identification and/or provision of speakers);
  • Publication of a bi-weekly newsletter for network members;
  • Organisation and animation of the EU Space Networks General Assembly;
  • Operation of a communication and networking platform for network members;
  • Processing of the applications received from potential new network members;
  • Organisation of monthly webinars;
  • Presentation of the EU Space programme at relevant events;
  • Processing of the user requests received on by the helpdesk, which represent in average over 2,000 inquiries annually from citizens, businesses, entrepreneurs, academia, researchers, media, and the public sector;
  • Publication and distribution of EU Space Programme-related articles (the "EU Space Observer") on a weekly basis;
  • Publication of EU Space Programme-related podcasts.

The above-mentioned tasks contribute to achieving the overall aim of the EUSSO and the EU Space Networks to increase global visibility and user uptake for data and services from the EU Space Programme, including Copernicus, Galileo, EGNOS, IRIS², Space Situational Awareness (SSA), and Space Traffic Management (STM).
