Internationalisation of Earth observation companies

International cooperation can also serve as a market-opener for the promotion of European technology and services in areas related to Earth observation. International markets could represent significant opportunities for European companies in the EO domain in the future.

The Copernicus free and open data policy provides opportunities for European industry to tailor Earth observation products based on Copernicus data and information for non-European markets. In addition, access to complementary data sources from third countries facilitates the development of relevant products for European downstream service providers.

Many countries lack skills to develop products on their own. This presents opportunities for European companies to provide tailored products for local and regional markets in third countries, potentially through partnership programmes and joint ventures.

The European Commission proposes a wide range of instruments aimed at supporting the internationalisation of European companies, in particular small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Many of these initiatives and programmes can be leveraged by Earth observation companies wishing to expand their business outside the European Union.
